Improvement of the Hydrolytic Stability of the Keggin Molybdo-and Tungsto-Phosphate Anions by Cyclodextrins

Sa Yao et al.

Summary: Keggin-type molybdo- and tungsto-phosphate polyoxoanions suffer from limited stability at low pH, but their stability can be improved by forming supramolecular complexes with cyclodextrins (CDs). Gamma-CD shows the strongest stabilization effect on these polyoxoanions, allowing them to remain intact at higher pH values. In addition, the stability enhancement of the complexes formed with smaller alpha- and beta-CDs is less pronounced.

Effect of Hierarchical Porosity on PMo12 Adsorption and Capacitance in Hybrid Carbon-PMo12 Electrodes for Supercapacitors

Eduardo Fuentes-Quezada et al.

Summary: This study presents an industrially scalable synthetic strategy for developing efficient hybrid supercapacitor electrodes. By combining hierarchical mesoporous carbons and phosphomolybdic acid, the researchers achieved a significant increase in hybrid electrode capacitance. The findings challenge the conventional belief that micropores are the optimal choice for phosphomolybdic acid incorporation, demonstrating the advantages of small mesopores in maximizing adsorption and ensuring proper electrolyte diffusion.

Simplifying Electrode Design for Lithium-Ion Rechargeable Cells

Tianye Zheng et al.

Summary: In the competitive race of lithium-ion cell manufacturing, labor and energy costs are important concerns. Conventional electrode designs require significant resources and there is a trade-off between environmental friendliness and ethical sourcing. By modifying the cell design with foils and textiles, manufacturing considerations can be significantly changed. This work demonstrates a possible cell design that utilizes prelithiated aluminum foil for the anode and activated carbon fiber textiles for the cathode, reducing energy and cost-intensive production steps and achieving sustainability.

MOF/POM hybrids as catalysts for organic transformations

Ketan Maru et al.

Summary: The insertion of molecular metal oxides, such as polyoxometalates (POMs), into metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) has provided new research opportunities, particularly in the field of catalysis. POM/MOF composites exhibit strong acidity, oxygen-rich surface, and redox capacity due to the characteristics of POMs, as well as large surface area, highly organized structures, tunable pore size, and shape due to MOFs. These hybrid materials have gained significant attention and have potential applications in various fields including organic catalysis, sorption and separation, proton conduction, magnetism, lithium-ion batteries, supercapacitors, electrochemistry, medicine, and bio-fuel. The exceptional properties of POMOFs make them promising catalysts for simple organic transformations with high capacity and selectivity.
