Aquatic plants and ecotoxicological assessment in freshwater ecosystems: a review

Simona Ceschin et al.

Summary: This paper reviews the current state-of-the-art, limitations, critical issues, and new directions in freshwater plant ecotoxicology. The main issues identified include narrow range of species and endpoints considered, lack of environmental relevance, excessively short exposure times, and potential reactions between toxicants and culture media.

Persistent organic pollutants (POPs) in fish species from different lakes of the lesser Himalayan region (LHR), Pakistan: The influence of proximal sources in distribution of POPs

Rahat Riaz et al.

Summary: The study found differences in concentrations and patterns of residual organic pollutants in fish from the Lesser Himalayan Region, indicating the influence of lake types and human activities. Stable isotopes and nutritional characteristics were identified as important factors in explaining the variability of these compounds.

Assessment of organochlorine pesticides and health risk in tobacco farming associated with River Barandu of Pakistan

Ammara Taufeeq et al.

Summary: The study uncovered organic chlorine pesticide contamination in River Barandu near tobacco farming areas in Pakistan, with HCHs and heptachlor being the most prevalent. OCP levels in sediments ranged from 32.918 to 98.810 ng/g and in water from 0.340 to 0.935 μg/L. It is recommended to conduct detailed ecological and health risk studies considering the bio-accumulating nature of these contaminants in the food chain.

Levels and Potential Health Hazards of Chlorinated Pesticides in Surface Water Samples of Charsadda Area of Pakistan Using SPME-GC-ECD Technique

Muhammad Ismail et al.

Summary: Chlorinated pesticide residues in surface water samples from the Charsadda district in Pakistan were studied in this research. Various parameters of the SPME procedure were optimized for efficient extraction and analysis of 20 organochlorine pesticides. The study found that certain pesticides like gamma-BHC, heptachlor, aldrin, and dieldrin were present in the samples at concentrations exceeding permissible levels, while other pesticides were not detected.
