The interactive effects of ethinylestradiol and progesterone on transcriptional expression of genes along the hypothalamus-pituitary-thyroid axis in embryonic zebrafish (Danio rerio)

Jiefeng Tan et al.

Summary: Progestins and estrogens have interactive effects on the transcriptional level of the HPT axis in zebrafish embryos, with their mixtures showing higher toxicity than individual chemicals. The developmental and neurotoxic effects of Gestodene and 17 alpha-ethinylestradiol on zebrafish indicate potential risks on both the gene expression and whole organismal level.

Effects of methylisothiazolinone and octylisothiazolinone on development and thyroid endocrine system in zebrafish larvae

Sujin Lee et al.

Summary: The study investigated the developmental toxicity and effects on the thyroid endocrine system in zebrafish embryos exposed to MIT and OIT. The results showed that exposure to these two isothiazolinones led to decreased hatchability, larvae survival, and body length in zebrafish larvae, as well as decreased levels of thyroid hormones. Significant gene expression changes and epigenetic deregulation of miRNAs were also observed. OIT exhibited higher toxicity compared to MIT.

Critical window of exposure of CMIT/MIT with respect to developmental effects on zebrafish embryos: Multi-level endpoint and proteomics analysis

Nivedita Chatterjee et al.

Summary: This study investigated the adverse effects of CMIT/MIT exposure on zebrafish embryos at various developmental stages, revealing mechanisms such as spinal curvature, pericardial edema, altered heart rates, global DNA hypermethylation, and significant changes in locomotion behavior. Proteomics analysis indicated that suppression of cardiac muscle contractions and energy metabolism were potential underlying mechanisms of the adverse effects caused by CMIT/MIT. The study identified < 6 hpf as the most susceptible exposure window, followed by < 48 hpf for CMIT/MIT.

Thyroid disrupting effects of perfluoroundecanoic acid and perfluorotridecanoic acid in zebrafish (Danio rerio) and rat pituitary (GH3) cell line

Jihyun Kim et al.

Summary: This study found that long-chain perfluorinated carboxylic acids (PFCAs) such as PFUnDA and PFTrDA may cause transcriptional changes of thyroid regulating genes, affecting the morphological development of zebrafish larvae. However, the pathway of thyroid disruption appears to be different depending on the molecular chain length of PFCAs.

Fish toxicity testing for identification of thyroid disrupting chemicals

ZhiChao Dang et al.

Summary: This study summarized and evaluated the effects of TDCs on fish thyroid sensitive endpoints, including thyroid hormones, gene expression, and other aspects. The findings suggest that changes in thyroid sensitive endpoints may be influenced by various factors, such as the balance of different processes and environmental factors.
