Meaningful Trend in Climate Time Series: A Discussion Based On Linear and Smoothing Techniques for Drought Analysis in Taiwan

Shih-Han Huang et al.

Summary: Finding significant trends in hydroclimate time series is important, and current methods mainly focus on statistical significance of linear trends. This study proposes a more general approach that includes both linear and smoothing techniques. By analyzing the precipitation index series in Taiwan, an overall upward trend is identified, but there are also downward trends in different time ranges migrating from the southcentral-southwestern to eastern regions. The recent drying trend in eastern Taiwan has the highest confidence based on all methods, and caution is advised when using linear regression.

Understanding interactions among climate, water, and vegetation with the Budyko framework

Guojing Gan et al.

Summary: The study provides a comprehensive review of the utilization of Budyko models in analyzing climate-catchment interactions and the influence of vegetation on the partitioning of precipitation. Findings show that vegetation characteristics and areas with low water retention capacity play crucial roles in influencing global evapotranspiration and runoff patterns, with large-scale reforestation contributing significantly to changes in annual runoff.

Sensitivity and attribution analysis based on the Budyko hypothesis for streamflow change in the Baiyangdian catchment, China

Summary: The study on the Baiyangdian catchment revealed that changes in streamflow are mainly attributed to catchment changes rather than climate changes. In wet regions, streams are more sensitive to climate change.

Effects of watershed char and climate variables on annual runoff in different climatic zones in China

Jiayi Huo et al.

Summary: The study analyzed 73 watersheds and found that climatic and watershed factors significantly affect annual runoff, with the subtropical monsoon climate region showing higher rainfall and runoff depth. Precipitation has a positive impact on annual runoff depth, while actual evapotranspiration has a negative impact on it.

Effects of reservoir water level fluctuations and rainfall on a landslide by two-way ANOVA and K-means clustering

Shuangshuang Wu et al.

Summary: This study developed a novel approach to interpret the effects of reservoir water level and precipitation on the displacement of reservoir landslides, using the Gapa landslide in Southwest China as a case study. The results revealed that under specific conditions, the displacement rate of reservoir landslides can rapidly increase.

Application of Physically Based Semi-Distributed HEC-HMS Model for Flow Simulation in Tributary Catchments of Kaohsiung Area Taiwan

Fiaz Hussain et al.

Summary: This study successfully simulated surface runoff in four tributary catchments of Kaohsiung area Taiwan using the HEC-HMS model, showing satisfactory simulation performance. The model was also applied to the ungauged Meinong creek catchment after calibration, verifying its efficiency in synthesizing hydrologic processes and phenomena in both wet and dry seasons.
