Energy and daylighting performance of building integrated spirooxazine photochromic films

Alessandro Cannavale et al.

Summary: The study highlights the potential of chromogenic materials and systems for innovative, transparent building envelopes with adjustable thermo-optical properties. The research focuses on the effects of photochromic glazing on building energy consumption and visual comfort, and finds that photochromic glazing can significantly reduce energy use for cooling and artificial lighting while also providing good visual comfort.

Colorimetric detection of Hg2+ and CH3Hg+ by a novel spirooxazine derivative as a highly sensitive and selective probe

Supak Pattaweepaiboon et al.

Summary: 6'-(indolin-1-yl)-1-(4-methoxybenzyl)-3,3-dimethylspiro[indoline-2,3'-naphtho[2,1-b][1,4]oxazine] (SPO) is a novel colorimetric probe with superior selectivity and sensitivity for CH3Hg+ detection in a 1,4-dioxane solution. Complexes of SPO with Hg2+ or CH3Hg+ were formed at a 1:1 mol ratio, with detection limits in the nM level in 1,4-dioxane. Test strips coated with SPO also showed highly sensitive detection of CH3Hg+ in mixed 1,4-dioxane:water solutions.

Photoluminescent Nanoinks with Multilevel Security for Quick Authentication of Encoded Optical Tags by Sunlight: Effective Physicochemical Parameters on Responsivity, Printability, and Brightness

Amin Abdollahi et al.

Summary: The study focuses on the development of amine-functionalized latex nanoparticles and their surface modification with spiropyran photoswitches to create anticounterfeiting nanoinks with multilevel security and photochromic/fluorescence properties. These nanoinks are used for printing encoded optical security tags on cellulosic papers and banknotes, allowing for easy and fast authentication through sunlight irradiation.
