Side chain engineering of semiconducting polymers for improved NIR-II fluorescence imaging and photothermal therapy

Chao Yin et al.

Summary: Efficient agents for NIR-II fluorescence imaging in biomedicine and life science have been developed through side chain engineering of semiconducting polymers (SPs). The optimization of fluorescence by tuning the conformation and bulk of side chains, particularly using bulky branched side chains, has been shown to enhance fluorescence intensity and improve photothermal therapy efficacy. The study proposes a feasible molecular guideline for amplifying the NIR-II brightness of SPs for enhanced phototheranostics.
