In-situ scanning electrochemical microscopy interrogation on open-circuit release of toxic Ni2+ ion from Ni-containing carbon nanomaterials and nickel-hexacyanoferrate formation in physiological pH and its thiol-electrocatalysis relevance

Sairaman Saikrithika et al.

Summary: In this study, the corrosion and nickel ion release behavior of nickel-loaded carbon nanotubes under neutral pH conditions were investigated using in-situ scanning electrochemical microscopy. The results showed that the release of nickel ions was related to the formation of nickel hexacyanoferrate on the surface of nickel-loaded carbon nanotubes. Additionally, it was found that the electrode modified with nickel hexacyanoferrate could serve as an efficient and selective electrocatalyst and electrochemical detector.

Effect of pyrrolic-N defects on the capacitance and magnetization of nitrogen-doped multiwalled carbon nanotubes

Roque Sanchez-Salas et al.

Summary: Heteroatoms, particularly nitrogen, in multiwalled carbon nanotubes significantly influence their distribution and physicochemical properties. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy revealed maximal nitrogen content in the second high-temperature zone of the reactor, with predominance of pyrrolic-N doping. The increase in I-D/I-G ratio in Raman spectroscopy indicates the presence of defective graphitic material.
