A Narrative Review on Sarcopenia in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus: Prevalence and Associated Factors

Anna Izzo et al.

Summary: Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a major health burden for the elderly, affecting approximately 25% of those over 65 years old. Sarcopenia, characterized by loss of skeletal muscle mass and function, has been identified as a new complication in elderly individuals with T2DM. It is important for researchers and clinicians to understand the risk factors and associations of sarcopenia in T2DM patients in order to provide appropriate therapeutic interventions.

Skeletal Muscle and Metabolic Health: How Do We Increase Muscle Mass and Function in People with Type 2 Diabetes?

Ebaa Al-Ozairi et al.

Summary: The importance of muscles in type 2 diabetes and the efficacy of resistance exercise in improving glycemic control have been highlighted in this review. Simple resistance exercises that can be performed anywhere, with little or no equipment, are seen as key to increasing participation in resistance exercise among people with type 2 diabetes.
