Oncostatin M expression induced by bacterial triggers drives airway inflammatory and mucus secretion in severe asthma

Sarah E. Headland et al.

Summary: Bacterial dysbiosis and opportunistic bacterial infections may contribute to the progression and exacerbation of severe asthma, but the mechanisms involved are not fully understood. This study reveals that bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS) induces the production of oncostatin M (OSM), which is associated with a transcriptional profile observed in severe asthma patients. OSM activates inflammatory and mucus-producing pathways, driving the pathophysiological features of severe asthma.

Comparison of DNA repair and radiosensitivity of different blood cell populations

Daniel Heylmann et al.

Summary: The research investigated the radiation sensitivity of different human blood cell populations obtained from healthy volunteers. T and B cells were found to be highly sensitive to radiation, but displayed DNA repair competence. In terms of cell death/apoptosis, T cells, NK cells, and B cells showed higher sensitivity compared to monocytes, macrophages, and immature dendritic cells.
