Petal development and elaboration

Xuehao Fu et al.

Summary: This article reviews the developmental processes of simple and elaborate petals, concluding that elaborate petals can be achieved through four main ways of modifications, which involve changes in gene expression patterns and the proliferation, expansion and differentiation of cells.

The leaf meristem enigma: The relationship between the plate meristem and the marginal meristem

Hirokazu Tsukaya

Summary: Leaf organogenesis is regulated by the spatiotemporal activity of leaf meristems, with plate meristem and marginal meristem playing distinct roles in leaf growth. Although these two meristems are regulated by different factors, many details of their regulatory systems are still unclear. The relationship between plate meristem and marginal meristem remains a major unsolved question in the field.
