Effective fluoride removal from brackish groundwaters by flow-electrode capacitive deionization (FCDI) under a continuous-flow mode

Huan Jiang et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated the effectiveness of utilizing flow-electrode capacitive deionization (FCDI) for treating fluoride-contaminated brackish groundwater. The study found that short-circuited closed-cycle (SCC) mode was the most advantageous operational mode. Factors such as current density, hydraulic residence time (HRT), activated carbon loading, and feed concentration of coexisting NaCl were found to affect the removal of F- and Cl-. F- was preferentially removed from the treated water compared with Cl-, and the removal efficiencies of both ions decreased with increasing feed concentration of coexisting NaCl.

Flow-electrode capacitive deionization utilizing three-dimensional foam current collector for real seawater desalination

Xinyuan Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, a three-dimensional carbon coated nickel foam was used as a current collector in a flow-electrode capacitive deionization (CF-FCDI) device to enhance the charge transfer ability and achieve excellent desalination efficiency for real seawater. Compared with traditional current collectors, the three-dimensional foam current collector showed evident competitiveness, as it enlarged the charge contact area and eliminated the charging range restriction. The CF-FCDI device demonstrated outstanding desalination performance when treating simulated and real seawater samples.

Graphite accelerate dissimilatory iron reduction and vivianite crystal enlargement

Yu Wu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the use of graphite as an additive to enhance vivianite biomineralization, with promising results especially in insoluble hematite conditions where graphite considerably increased vivianite formation efficiency. The findings suggest that enhancing dissimilatory iron reduction rate of iron oxides and enlarging crystal size with the use of graphite provide new insights for vivianite formation and separation during wastewater treatment.

Phosphate recovery as vivianite using a flow-electrode capacitive desalination (FCDI) and fluidized bed crystallization (FBC) coupled system

Changyong Zhang et al.

Summary: Efficient removal and recovery of phosphate from wastewater is crucial for environmental and economic benefits. Recent efforts have focused on harvesting phosphate as vivianite, a potential slow-release fertilizer and precursor for lithium iron phosphate production. A novel process involving flow-electrode capacitive deionization (FCDI) and fluidized bed crystallization (FBC) has shown promising results in P concentration and immobilization. The study provides a pathway for sustainable phosphorus recovery from rich wastewaters.

Facile preparation of dual La-Zr modified magnetite adsorbents for efficient and selective phosphorus recovery

Xiaochang Lin et al.

Summary: Phosphate (P) is essential for the growth of all living organisms, and the depletion of minable P rock has led to an increasing demand for P recovery, driving the development of novel technologies. This study introduced a novel magnetic adsorbent, La-Zr@Fe3O4, for convenient and efficient P reclamation from wastewater or sludge, showing high affinity and rapid separation. The La-Zr@Fe3O4 demonstrated high stability and reusability in cyclic adsorption/desorption experiments, with potential for efficient phosphate sequestration and recovery.
