Interstitial Hydrides in Nanoclusters can Reduce M(I) (M=Cu, Ag, Au) to M(0) and Form Stable Superatoms

Werner E. van Zyl et al.

Summary: This article describes the formation of superatoms by nanoclusters of Group 11 metals stabilized by dichalcogenido and hydrido ligands, and their relationship with precursor hydrido clusters. It is found that the formation of superatoms involves the loss of hydrides and release of H-2 gas, indicating internal self-redox reactions that require a similar core structure.

Traceless Removal of Two Kernel Atoms in a Gold Nanocluster and Its Impact on Photoluminescence

Yue Zhou et al.

Summary: Removing or adding kernel atoms of metal nanoclusters without leaving a trace is a challenge, but crucial for improving properties and understanding the kernel-property correlation. The study achieved traceless removal of two kernel atoms in a gold nanocluster and demonstrated that the kernel Au-Au bond length can be used as an indicator for comparing photoluminescence or kernel charge state in similar nanoclusters.
