Robotic Manipulation and Capture in Space: A Survey

Evangelos Papadopoulos et al.

Summary: This survey explores the development of on-orbit robotic capabilities, focusing on manipulation and capture tasks, including dynamics of space manipulator systems (SMS), contact dynamics between manipulator grippers/payloads and targets, and methods for sensing pose and system states during capture operations. Numerous technologies and ground testing testbeds are reviewed, highlighting major missions and advancements in capturing targets on-orbit.

Robustness of Networked Systems to Unintended Interactions With Application to Engineered Genetic Circuits

Yili Qian et al.

Summary: A networked dynamical system is composed of subsystems interconnected via prescribed interactions, but unintended interactions can significantly change the network's behavior. Conditions on subsystem dynamics and interaction maps are provided to ensure network robustness to unintended interactions, including asymptotic attenuation of external disturbances, monotonicity properties, absence of feedback loops, and more. This result is applied to guide the design of resource-limited genetic circuits with feedback-regulated subsystems.

Context-aware synthetic biology by controller design: Engineering the mammalian cell

Nika Shakiba et al.

Summary: The rise of systems biology views cells as systems processing environmental inputs, while synthetic biology programs cell behavior through synthetic genetic devices. Context effects impact device performance within mammalian cells, requiring approaches to overcome context dependence for predictable behaviors. Control systems methods can be used to achieve context-aware devices, with potential implications for regenerative medicine applications like cell fate programing.

Perfect adaptation in biology

Mustafa H. Khammash

Summary: The ability of biological systems to adapt to persistent stimuli and achieve robust perfect adaptation (RPA) is discussed in the article, highlighting the importance of structural constraints in regulating networks to maintain stability. Understanding these constraints can provide insight into regulatory biological complexity beyond implementation details.
