DISPLACEMENT CLOUD POINT EXTRACTION PROCEDURE FOR PRECONCENTRATION OF IRON(III) IN WATER AND FRUIT SAMPLES PRIOR TO SPECTROPHOTOMETRIC DETERMINATION

Ebaa Adnan Azooz et al.

Summary: The displacement cloud point extraction (D-CPE) technique was used for the enrichment of iron(III) and its spectrophotometric determination. The experimental results showed that this method achieved the separation of iron and zinc complexes based on the difference in stability constant, and allowed for accurate determination at 560 nm. The calibration graph was linear under optimal conditions, with a high enrichment factor and low LOD, demonstrating good accuracy and recovery.

Methodology of Preconcentration and Determination of Silver in Aqueous Samples using Cloud Point Extraction

Ebaa Adnan Azooz et al.

Summary: A cloud point extraction (CPE) procedure was developed for the selective extraction of silver, with key factors such as type and quantity of salting-out agent, silver ion, temperature, heating time, and surfactant volume being examined. The method showed a linear analytical curve under optimal conditions, with detection limit (LOD), quantification limit (LOQ), and enrichment factor (E) of 0.05 μg L-1, 0.15 μg L-1, and 200, respectively. The proposed approach was validated using flame atomic absorption spectrometry and spectrophotometry, and successfully applied to different environmental samples.

Trends in hollow fibre liquid phase microextraction for the preconcentration of pharmaceutically active compounds in aqueous solution: A case for polymer inclusion membrane

Ayo Olasupo et al.

Summary: Low concentrations of pharmaceutically active compounds in complex aqueous environments require efficient sample pretreatment methods. Hollow fibre liquid phase microextraction (HF-LPME) is an effective alternative to conventional techniques, consuming less organic solvent and having a shorter extraction time. However, membrane instability remains a limitation. Hollow fibre polymer inclusion membrane liquid-phase micro extraction (HF-PIM-LPME) using ionic liquids shows promise for overcoming this limitation, with high membrane stability and similar selectivity and reproducibility to HF-SLM-LPME.

A comprehensive review on the neuropathophysiology of selenium

Mohammad Naderi et al.

Summary: Selenium is an essential micronutrient with beneficial health effects at proper levels, but can become highly toxic at slightly higher concentrations. Excessive selenium exposure may compromise the normal functioning of key proteins, neurotransmitter systems, and signaling molecules, as well as increase the risk of neurodegenerative and neuropsychiatric diseases. Despite its deleterious effects on the central nervous system, the neurotoxicity and negative behavioral outcomes of excess selenium are often overlooked.
