Pyrene-based fluorescent Ru(ii)-arene complexes for significant biological applications: catalytic potential, DNA/protein binding, two photon cell imaging and in vitro cytotoxicity

Pragti et al.

Summary: In this study, four organometallic Ru(II)-arene complexes were designed and synthesized, and it was found that they possess anticancer, antimetastatic, and two-photon cell imaging abilities. These complexes also demonstrate good catalytic activity in the transfer hydrogenation reaction and strong interactions with biological molecules and DNA. Furthermore, the complexes show capabilities to inhibit cell migration and generate intracellular reactive oxygen species in breast cancer cells.

Summary: The structure-property relationship of fluorophores with favorable nonlinear optical properties was studied by synthesizing a series of terthiophene-o-carborane dyads and triads. It was found that the carborane unit has a significant impact on introducing the aggregation-induced emission characteristic. These fluorophores exhibit good photoluminescence in solid states and have potential applications in optical limiting.

Summary: This study utilized the two-photon excited fluorescence method to determine the two-photon absorption cross sections of gold(I) complexes in the visible wavelength range from 570 to 700 nm, revealing moderate 2PA cross sections. Ancillary ligand substitutions did not significantly affect the 2PA magnitudes, making these complexes potential nonlinear optical materials for two-photon absorption applications.

Near-infrared dyes for two-photon absorption in the short-wavelength infrared: strategies towards optical power limiting

Summary: This work provides an overview of recent advances in two-photon absorbing chromophores active in the short-wavelength infrared (SWIR) spectral range, describing common strategies and structure-property relationships leading to near-infrared (NIR) electronic absorption of chromophores. A complete review of molecules featuring two-photon absorption (2PA) beyond 1100 nm is presented for potential use in optical power limiting applications. Recent progress in optical power limiting in the SWIR band is reported, emphasizing the use of the two-photon induced excited state absorption (ESA) process as an enhancer.
