Effect of microfines from manufactured sand on yield stress of cement paste

Jiang Zhu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of microfines of limestone, granite, and two tuffs on the yield stress of cement pastes, revealing that the incorporation of microfines increases the yield stress. The differences in specific surface area between limestone and granite led to different degrees of increase in yield stress, while the two tuffs with similar specific surface area showed equivalent effects on yield stress. The internal particle network of the cement pastes is jointly affected by colloidal interactions and particle contact interactions, leading to different influences of microfines on the yield stress.

Bond behavior of square CFT using manufactured sand and recycled coarse aggregate

Minsheng Guan et al.

Summary: This study investigated the bond behavior of concrete-filled square steel tubes using manufactured sand and recycled coarse aggregate, finding that MS-RCA-CFT members had similar bond behavior as conventional CFT members. Factors such as increasing concrete compressive strength and decreasing width-to-thickness ratio led to higher bond strength, while a stone powder content of 5% to 10% resulted in the highest bond strength.

The potential use of crushed waste glass as a sustainable alternative to natural and manufactured sand in geotechnical applications

Danish Kazmi et al.

Summary: The study found that crushed waste glass as an alternative to construction sand shows similar or even superior geotechnical behavior compared to traditional sands. Waste glass has the potential to serve as a next-generation geomaterial, potentially replacing traditional sands in various geotechnical applications.

Performance of fly ash concrete with ferronickel slag fine aggregate against alkali-silica reaction and chloride diffusion

Quang Dieu Nguyen et al.

Summary: This study confirmed the significant potential of concrete containing 50% FNS sand and 25% fly ash, which can be used not only as a low-carbon concrete with comparable mechanical properties to conventional concrete, but also with better performance against ASR and chloride contamination.

Experimental study to improve the mechanical properties of iron tailings sand by using MICP at low pH

Yongming Lai et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that the MICP spray treatment using a low-pH bacterial solution is more effective in improving the mechanical properties of iron tailings sand compared to traditional methods. The low-pH bacterial solution has a significant impact on CaCO3 precipitation and bioflocculation generation time, with the pH of the solution stabilizing at around 7 after the reaction.

Near-Surface and Chloride Permeability of Concrete Using Pozzolanic Materials and Manufactured Sand as Partial Replacement of Fine Aggregate

Kiran M. Mane et al.

Summary: This research investigates the feasibility of using manufactured sand and pozzolanic materials to replace natural sand and cement in concrete, showing that replacing 60% natural fine aggregate with M-sand and 20% cement with silica fume results in concrete with superior properties.

Experimental study and numerical analysis on seismic performance of FRP confined high-strength rectangular concrete-filled steel tube columns

Zhihua Chen et al.

Summary: This study investigated the seismic performance of FRP confined high-strength rectangular CFT columns using high-strength thin-walled steel tubes and high-strength concrete through experimental and numerical analysis. Various parameters such as aspect ratio, axial compression ratio, number of FRP layers, and fiber direction were considered. The research findings could contribute to the application of high-strength materials and FRP-strengthened CFT structures.
