Mechanical properties and self-healing capacity of Ultra High Performance Fibre Reinforced Concrete with alumina nano-fibres: Tailoring Ultra High Durability Concrete for aggressive exposure scenarios

Estefania Cuenca et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of alumina nano-fibres on Ultra High Performance Fibre Reinforced Cementitious Concrete. The results demonstrate the superior performance of alumina nano-fibres in enhancing the durability of the composite, primarily through promoting cement and binder hydration reactions to stimulate crack sealing and performance healing recovery.

Enhancement of fabric-mortar interfacial adhesion by particle decoration: insights from pull-off measurements

Matan Birenboim et al.

Summary: Decorating polymer-coated carbon fabric with micron-size particles or nanocarbons can enhance the bond strength and mechanical properties of textile-reinforced concrete. Cement powder decoration forms a 100-micron thick interlayer, improving the performance of the composite; unexpectedly, exposure to a NaCl environment results in enhanced bond strength due to salt crystal growth.

Durability and Self-Sealing Examination of Concretes Modified with Crystalline Waterproofing Admixtures

Pejman Azarsa et al.

Summary: Repairing concrete structures incurs high costs annually worldwide. Chemical admixtures, particularly Permeability Reducing Admixtures (PRA), have shown promise in protecting structures from water penetration. The use of a hydrophilic Crystalline Waterproofing Admixtures (CWA) has demonstrated superior performance in enhancing concrete's durability and self-sealing properties.

The Effect of Crystalline Waterproofing Admixtures on the Self-Healing and Permeability of Concrete

Anita Gojevic et al.

Summary: The study showed that adding CWA had minimal impact on the compressive strength of concrete, but it did reduce water penetration depth, especially in mixes with lower water-binder ratio. Additionally, CWA improved crack healing in concrete, although the efficiency of self-healing depended on the initial crack width. Mechanisms involving CSH gel formation, carbonate formation, and gel formation from magnesium based additives were identified as contributing to the reduction in water penetration depth and crack healing in concrete.

Textile-cement bond enhancement: Sprinkle some hydrophilic powder

Amr Alatawna et al.

Summary: The research investigated different coating strategies to enhance the bonding between fibers and cementitious matrix in textile reinforced concrete. It was found that sprinkling cement powder over freshly coated epoxy yarn provided the best adhesion, while adding a small amount of cement or graphene oxide particles on the coated surface offered the highest slippage energy.
