Roles of particle packing and water coating thickness in carbonation and strength of ?-dicalcium silicate-based low carbon materials

Z. X. Chen et al.

Summary: This work examines the properties of gamma-dicalcium silicate (gamma-C2S), a low carbon material, with a focus on the influence of particle packing and water coating thickness (WCT). The results reveal the impact of WCT on early strength gain and the critical carbonation depth. An optimal WCT exists for achieving the highest strength and CO2 uptake.

Determination of free chloride in seawater cement paste with low water-binder ratio

Yifan Zhao et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effects of water extraction method on the free chloride content in sea water cement paste with low water-binder ratio, finding that an extraction time of around 3 minutes yielded optimal results. The free chloride content obtained by water extraction method was comparable to that obtained by pore pressing method, but both methods tended to overestimate the chloride content.

Feasibility of glass/basalt fiber reinforced seawater coral sand mortar for 3D printing

L. G. Li et al.

Summary: In this study, a series of mortar mixes made of seawater, coral sand, and glass or basalt fibers were developed and tested for their fresh and hardened properties to create 3D printable glass/basalt fiber reinforced seawater coral sand mortars. Adjustment of water reducer dosage allowed for good buildability in all mixes, although the addition of fibers slightly decreased compressive strength. The printed specimens exhibited lower flexural and compressive strengths compared to standard un-printed specimens, but the overall potential of fiber reinforced seawater coral sand mortar for use in remote areas as a 3D printable material was highlighted.

Modelling analysis of chloride redistribution in sea-sand concrete exposed to atmospheric environment

Wei Liu et al.

Summary: The study establishes a mathematical model to describe the redistribution of internal chloride ions in sea-sand concrete structures exposed to atmospheric carbonation, with simulation results showing a decrease in chloride ion concentration with depth after redistribution, but a 'pseudo enrichment' of chloride content in the concrete wt% unit chloride profile.

Chemical and mineralogical characteristics of carbonated and uncarbonated cement pastes subjected to high temperatures

Yongqiang Li et al.

Summary: The study found that the carbonation process can enhance the high-temperature resistance of concrete, delaying the increase in temperature in the inner layer and improving the fire resistance of the concrete to some extent. Through investigating the effects of carbonation on the fire resistance of concrete and the chemical and mineralogical changes of uncarbonated and carbonated cement pastes under high temperatures, it was demonstrated that carbonated pastes exhibit better heat resistance than uncarbonated samples.
