Coupled bio-hydro-thermo-mechanical interactions of landfilled MSW based on a multi-phase, multi-component numerical model

Shi-Feng Lu et al.

Summary: This study presents a novel multi-phase, multi-component numerical model to investigate the long-term coupled behaviors of landfilled Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) and the spatial and temporal variations of MSW properties. The numerical simulations reveal the coupled mechanisms of MSW biodegradation, leachate and gas flows, MSW deformation, and heat transfer, providing significant insights for landfill design and management.

A multi-phase, multi-component model for coupled processes in anaerobic landfills: theory, implementation and validation

Shi-Feng Lu et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a numerical model based on the theories of mass, momentum, and energy conservation for describing the long-term behavior of landfilled municipal solid waste. The model was validated through comparisons between experimental results and simulations, demonstrating its effectiveness in capturing the complex processes involved in MSW degradation.

Influences of water and salt contents on the thermal conductivity of loess

Xusheng Yan et al.

Summary: This study used the transient plane heat source method to measure thermal conductivity and explored the effects of water and salt content on heat transfer within soil. The formation of liquid bridges and the heat transfer behavior of NaCl brine were observed, with the model by Usowicz et al. found to best describe soil thermal conductivity with salt contents ranging from 0% to 6%. The research provides valuable insights for geothermal resource development in the Guanzhong area and engineering projects in loess regions.

Analytical model for organic contaminant transport through GMB/CCL composite liner with finite thickness considering adsorption, diffusion and thermodiffusion

Ming-Qing Peng et al.

Summary: A new analytical model for organic contaminant transport through GMB/CCL composite liner was developed, considering adsorption, diffusion, and thermodiffusion processes. The study showed that thermodiffusion has a significant impact on contaminant transport in wet landfills, and neglecting its effect can lead to overestimation of barrier performance. Additionally, thermal conductivity of GMB and CCL has negligible effect on contaminant transport in GMB/CCL composite liners.
