Pullout behaviour of inclined shallow plate anchors in sand

Pei-Zhi Zhuang et al.

Summary: This paper presents an experimental study on the pullout behavior of inclined shallow plate anchors in sand under axial pull. The effects of anchor inclination and sand-anchor interface conditions on the load-displacement response and failure mechanisms were examined. The results showed that the anchor pullout capacity increases with increasing inclination angle and the effect of sand-anchor interface conditions becomes more significant at larger inclination angles.

Use of a bounding surface model in predicting element tests and capacity in boundary value problems

A. Roy et al.

Summary: This paper examines the merit of a bounding surface plasticity model, based on the model reported by Dafalias and Manzari. By introducing simple yet practical changes and an optimization technique for calibrating model parameters, uncertainties in parameter determination can be reduced to achieve good agreement with experimental results. The model shows potential in simulating responses, but also faces challenges in capturing global responses at all strain levels.

Towards a simple and reliable method for calculating uplift capacity of plate anchors in sand

A. Roy et al.

Summary: This study investigates the uplift capacity of horizontal plate anchors in sand using finite element analyses and centrifuge experiments. The results show good agreement for dense conditions but poorer performance for loose conditions. A modified limit equilibrium solution is proposed that better aligns with the finite element simulations.

Uplift Behavior of Pipes and Strip Plate Anchors in Sand

Pei-Zhi Zhuang et al.

Summary: This paper presents an experimental study on the uplift behaviour of pipes and strip plate anchors buried in sand. The study found that the overall uplift responses of pipes and strip anchors were essentially similar, but with some differences observed under specific conditions. Image analysis revealed that the peak resistance of shallow strip anchors/pipes was mobilized through the formation of a specific shape block.
