CO2-responsive Pickering emulsions stabilized by soft protein particles for interfacial biocatalysis

Yongkang Xi et al.

Summary: This study reports an efficient and sustainable biocatalysis system using a CO2/N-2-responsive Pickering emulsion stabilized solely by pure sodium caseinate (NaCas). The NaCas-stabilized emulsion displayed higher reaction efficiency and easy recovery of the emulsifier and enzyme. The recycled enzyme maintained its catalytic activity and showed promise for sustainable development in various industries.

Cellulose nanocrystals concentration and oil-water ratio for solid-liquid controllable emulsion polymerization

Miao Tang et al.

Summary: The stability of cellulose Pickering emulsions is influenced by the complex compositions of colloidal particles, oil phases, and water phases. By adjusting the concentration of cellulose nanocrystals and the VAc-water ratio, solid-liquid controllable polymerization products can be obtained, affecting the stability and practicality of the emulsions. Different forms of target products can be achieved through guidance from the three-phase diagram, broadening the application field for Pickering emulsion systems.

Simultaneous removal of Ni(II) and Cr(VI) from aqueous solution by froth flotation using PNIPAM-CS intelligent nano-hydrogels as collector

Huijie Zheng et al.

Summary: The study investigated the feasibility of using thermo-responsive intelligent nano-hydrogels for removing Ni(II) and Cr(VI) from aqueous solutions simultaneously. Experimental results showed that the suitable PNIPAM to CS mass ratio was 2:1, with an appropriate pH of 6 for adsorption experiments. XPS analysis revealed that the adsorption of Ni(II) and Cr(VI) by PNIPAM-CS nano-hydrogels mainly involved electrostatic adsorption, ion exchange, and complexation. Froth flotation under specific conditions achieved removal percentages of 86.1% for Ni(II) and 91.5% for Cr(VI).

CO2-responsive Pickering emulsion stablized by modified silica nanoparticles: A dissipative particle dynamics simulation study

Yan Wang et al.

Summary: Using dissipative particle dynamics (DPD) simulations, the impact of SiO2 nanoparticles (SNPs) modified with different tertiary amine chain length and concentration on O/W emulsion properties was investigated. The results showed that modified SNPs could enhance emulsion stability and slow down emulsion fusion. The length and concentration of tertiary amine chains have an influence on emulsion performance.
