Importance of water content in birnessite-type MnO2 catalysts for HCHO oxidation: Mechanistic details and DFT analysis

Changye Mang et al.

Summary: Water plays a crucial role in the catalytic oxidation of formaldehyde by influencing the phase structure and morphology of birnessite. The presence of hydroxyl groups accelerates the oxidation reaction of formaldehyde and facilitates the formation of oxygen vacancies. The continuous decomposition of formaldehyde by birnessite is attributed to the favorable effect of water on the catalytic reaction.

Electropositive carbon sites and sulfur vacancies in SnS2/g-C3N4 for achieving adsorption and photocatalytic degradation of As(III) in stages by pH regulation

Yi Peng et al.

Summary: In this study, a high content pyrrole nitrogen carbon nitride (HPCN)-SnS2 composite with excellent photocatalytic oxidation capacity of As(III) and adsorption capacity of As(V) was successfully constructed. The optimized HPCN-SnS1.38 can reduce total As concentrations below 0.40 mg/L within 80 minutes and can be reused at least 5 times without performance degradation. The photocatalytic mechanism of As(III) by HPCN-SnS2 after electron beam irradiation was studied, showing that oxidation is mainly controlled by center dot O-2- and center dot OH.
