Heterochiral β-Peptide Polymers Combating Multidrug-Resistant Cancers Effectively without Inducing Drug Resistance

Ning Shao et al.

Summary: The study presents a rational design of heterochiral beta-peptide polymers as anticancer agents for combating multidrug-resistant cancers. The optimal polymer shows potent and broad-spectrum anticancer activities against multidrug-resistant cancer cells by damaging cell membranes. In vivo experiments demonstrate that the polymer efficiently inhibits the growth and transfer of solid tumors and the metastasis and seeding of circulating tumor cells. Additionally, the beta-peptide polymers have excellent biocompatibility, superior stability against proteolysis, easy large-scale synthesis, and low cost compared to anticancer peptides.

Health Benefits of Quercetin in Age-Related Diseases

Deepika et al.

Summary: Polyphenols, including the widely occurring quercetin, are a group of plant compounds with antioxidant properties that protect against aging and various age-related diseases. Quercetin, present in abundant quantities in nature and particularly in onions, possesses antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-carcinogenic, and anti-diabetic properties. It can easily cross the blood-brain barrier and has shown potential as a curative agent in neurodegeneration, diabetes, cancer, and inflammation. Further studies and formulations of quercetin could explore its potential in treating other age-associated diseases.

A targeted nanoplatform co-delivery of pooled siRNA and doxorubicin for reversing of multidrug resistance in breast cancer

Hongmei Liu et al.

Summary: This study aimed to develop a novel and facile strategy for preparing a highly efficient and safe gene and drug delivery system for multidrug-resistant (MDR) breast cancer. A targeted nanoplatform based on biodegradable boronic acid modified epsilon-polylysine was developed to co-deliver P-gp siRNA, Bcl-2 siRNA, and doxorubicin for overcoming MDR. The nanoplatform exhibited robust inhibitory effects against invasion, proliferation, and colony formation of MCF-7/ADR cells in vitro, and demonstrated ATP responsiveness. In vivo antitumor experiments showed significant inhibition of tumor growth and good biocompatibility with the targeted nanoplatform.

Breast Cancer Statistics, 2022

Angela N. Giaquinto et al.

Summary: This article provides an update on female breast cancer statistics in the United States, including data on incidence, mortality, survival, and mammography screening. It shows that breast cancer incidence rates have increased over the past few decades, driven by localized-stage and hormone receptor-positive disease. However, breast cancer mortality rates have been steadily declining since 1989, although at a slower pace in recent years. Despite lower incidence rates, there remains a racial disparity in breast cancer mortality, with higher rates among Black women compared to White women.
