Minimal Clinically Important Difference for PROMIS Physical Function and Pain Interference in Patients Following Surgical Treatment of Distal Radius Fracture

Alex M. Hollenberg et al.

Summary: The study aimed to estimate the minimal clinically important difference (MCID) of the Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS) Physical Function (PF) and Pain Interference (PI) computer adaptive tests (CATs) in patients who underwent surgical treatment for distal radius fracture (DRF). The results showed significant differences in the changes in PROMIS PF and PI scores among patients who responded to the clinical anchor question. The anchor-based estimates were 5.2 for PROMIS PF and 6.8 for PI, while the distribution-based estimates were 3.8 for PROMIS PF and 3.7 for PI.

Establishing minimal clinically important difference for the UCLA and ASES scores after rotator cuff repair

Eduardo A. Malavolta et al.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the minimal clinically important difference (MCID) values in the analysis of clinical results to measure patient perception of improvement and satisfaction before and after surgery. The results showed that patients with higher preoperative scores had lower MCID values, which should be considered in postoperative comparisons between treatment groups.

Risk Factors for the Onset of Frozen Shoulder in Middle-Aged and Elderly Subjects Within 1 Year of Discharge From a Hospitalization That Involved Intravenous Infusion: A Prospective Cohort Study

Wenping Cao et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the incidence and risk factors for the onset of frozen shoulder in middle-aged and elderly subjects who received intravenous infusion during a hospitalization. The results showed that longer duration of intravenous infusion, longer hospital stay, overweight/obesity, older age, and diabetes were independent risk factors for frozen shoulder.

Correlation of Patient Reported Outcome Measurement Information System (PROMIS) with American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeon (ASES), and Constant (CS) scores in idiopathic adhesive capsulitis

Oluwadamilola Kolade et al.

Summary: The study conducted on patients with idiopathic adhesive capsulitis found that the PROMIS UE score correlated well with ASES and CS scores, with a lower question burden. This suggests that the PROMIS UE may have wider acceptability and comparable efficacy in patients with shoulder pathology like AC.

The epidemiology and etiology of adhesive capsulitis in the US Medicare population

Sara M. Sarasua et al.

Summary: The study investigated the epidemiology of adhesive capsulitis (AC) in individuals over 65 years old, finding a one-year prevalence rate of around 0.35% among this age group in the US. Diabetes and Parkinson's disease were significantly associated with AC diagnosis in the elderly, with cases slightly more common from August through December. The research applied case-control methodology to identify triggers for AC onset in the elderly population and suggested efforts to reduce chronic conditions like diabetes may also help in managing AC.

A Systematic Review of Cellular, Molecular, and Metabolic Findings

Christopher M. Jump et al.

Summary: The systematic review on frozen shoulder studies revealed cellular, molecular, and metabolic alterations in tissue and blood samples of patients, including chronic inflammation, proliferation of fibroblasts, reduced matrix metalloproteinases, and increased blood lipids. The findings suggest a complex upregulation of growth factors and cytokines, deposition of collagen, and reduced matrix degradation in frozen shoulder pathophysiology. Further research on early-stage patients and comparison with other joints may help identify initiating factors and explain shoulder stiffness predisposition.
