Long-term survival following upgrade compared with de novo cardiac resynchronization therapy implantation: a single-centre, high-volume experience

Walter Richard Schwertner et al.

Summary: Patients with pacemakers or implantable cardioverter-defibrillators undergoing cardiac resynchronization therapy are at increased risk of all-cause mortality, possibly due to higher comorbidity burden in upgrade patients. Lead dysfunction and pocket infections are more common in upgrade patients.

Impact of QRS duration on left ventricular remodelling and survival in patients with heart failure

Sam Straw et al.

Summary: This study found that patients with wide QRS had less left ventricular reverse remodelling compared to those with narrow QRS in the absence of CRT, and patients with narrow QRS were more likely to achieve at least a 10% improvement in LVEF.

Incremental changes in QRS duration as predictor for cardiovascular disease: a 21-year follow-up of a randomly selected general population

Xiaojing Chen et al.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the association between increased QRS duration from ages 50 to 60 and the risk of major cardiovascular events up to age 71. Findings showed a 56% increased risk of major cardiovascular events in men with Delta QRS >= 8 ms compared to those with Delta QRS < 4 ms after adjusting for multiple factors. Additionally, almost two out of three men experienced an increase in QRS duration between ages 50 and 60, highlighting the importance of QRS duration as an independent predictor for cardiovascular events.
