Clinical outcomes of dental implants in patients with and without history of periodontitis: A 20-year prospective study

Summary: The aim of this study was to evaluate the 20-year clinical outcomes of tissue-level implants in patients with a history of periodontitis and in periodontally healthy patients. The results showed that tissue-level implants, placed after comprehensive periodontal therapy and supportive periodontal care, had favorable long-term results. However, patients with a history of periodontitis who did not comply with supportive periodontal care were at higher risk of complications and implant loss.

Association between periodontitis treatment outcomes and peri-implantitis: A long-term retrospective cohort study

Summary: This study retrospectively evaluated the association between periodontal treatment outcomes and prevalence of peri-implant diseases around tissue-level implants in 86 patients with 260 implants. The results showed that periodontal conditions before implant placement are a risk indicator for peri-implantitis incidence, and the severity of periodontal status during implant follow-up is a reliable indicator of patient susceptibility to peri-implantitis.
