A Translational Tool to Facilitate Use of Apolipoprotein B for Clinical Decision-Making

Justine Cole et al.

Summary: Despite recent studies showing better correlation between atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) risk and apolipoprotein B (apoB) than with low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), treatment decisions in the United States still rely on LDL-C. This study developed a method to convert apoB values into LDL-C units, allowing the use of LDL-C targets for apoB-based treatment decisions.

Interplay of Atherogenic Particle Number and Particle Size and the Risk of Coronary Heart Disease

Karol M. Pencina et al.

Summary: This study examines the interplay of apolipoprotein B (apoB) and LDL particle size in the risk of new-onset coronary heart disease (CHD). The results show that apoB is a strong risk factor for CHD, but the association between cholesterol-depleted LDL particles and CHD remains inconclusive.
