Energy mix with technological innovation to abate carbon emission: fresh evidence from Mexico applying wavelet tools and spectral causality

Md Emran Hossain et al.

Summary: The issue of global warming arises from climate change, which has led scientists to focus on cleaner energy sources. Among clean sources, renewables and nuclear energy have gained significant attention from policymakers. However, the importance of nuclear energy in reducing CO2 emissions remains uncertain, requiring further research. Therefore, this study examines the relationship between energy mix, economic growth, technological innovation, and CO2 emissions in Mexico from 1980 to 2019, using the autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) model, to address the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals-7 (affordable clean energy) & 13 (climate change mitigation). The findings suggest that the use of renewable and nuclear energy, as well as technological innovation, can help reduce CO2 emissions, while fossil fuel consumption and economic expansion contribute to higher emissions. The study supports the environmental Kuznets curve (EKC) phenomenon in Mexico and provides reliable long-term estimates through FMOLS and DOLS tests. Wavelet coherence analysis confirms consistency across different time scales, and the spectral causality approach reveals significant causal associations between the variables at various frequencies. Therefore, Mexico needs to transition its energy mix to renewables and nuclear in order to achieve SDGs 7 and 13 and promote an environmentally friendly ecosystem.

Pathways to decarbonization in India: the role of environmentally friendly tourism development

Soumen Rej et al.

Summary: This study examines the relationship among carbon dioxide emissions, economic growth, international tourism, education, renewable energy consumption, and gross capital formation in India through the lens of the environmental Kuznets curve hypothesis framework. The results indicate an inverted U-shaped environmental Kuznets curve for India, with higher international tourist arrivals, renewable energy use, and gross capital formation reducing emissions in the long run. However, capital formation does not contribute to sustainable tourism practices, while education advancement is important for renewable energy penetration towards environmental sustainability.

The impact of renewable energy, internet use and foreign direct investment on carbon dioxide emissions: A method of moments quantile analysis

Ashar Awan et al.

Summary: This study analyzes the relationship among economic growth, environmental degradation, and various factors such as foreign direct investment, urbanization, renewable energy, and information communication technology. The findings reveal an inverted U-shape relationship between economic growth and environmental degradation, supporting the validity of the Environmental Kuznets Curve. Foreign direct investment has a positive impact on economic growth at lower quantiles but becomes insignificant at higher quantiles. Urbanization promotes environmental degradation, while renewable energy mitigates carbon dioxide emissions. Information communication technology, represented by internet usage, significantly reduces environmental degradation.

The role role of Financial Development and Technological Innovation towards Sustainable Development in Pakistan: Fresh insights from consumption and territory-based emissions

Kashif Raza Abbasi et al.

Summary: This study examines the impact of economic globalization, financial development, energy use, economic development, and technological innovation on consumption and emissions in Pakistan. The empirical evidence reveals that financial and economic development stimulate consumption and emissions in both the short and long run. Energy use intensifies consumption and emissions only in the long run. Economic globalization adversely affects consumption and emissions in the short run but increases consumption-based emissions in the long run. Technological innovations decrease emissions in the long term. The study suggests policymakers discourage non-renewables and increase renewable energy use to decrease consumption and emissions.
