Towards an SI-Traceable Reference Measurement System for Seven Serum Apolipoproteins Using Bottom-Up Quantitative Proteomics: Conceptual Approach Enabled by Cross-Disciplinary/Cross-Sector Collaboration

Christa M. Cobbaert et al.

Summary: Current dyslipidemia management in patients with ASCVD is based on traditional serum lipids, but research suggests that serum apolipoproteins may provide better insight into the root causes of dyslipidemia. Strategies for accurate testing of serum apolipoproteins should be developed in advance for future adoption in precision medicine. Recent discoveries in basic science and translational medicine have paved the way for the development of a multiplexed Reference Measurement System for apolipoproteins.

PCSK9 Activity Is Potentiated Through HDL Binding

Sean A. Burnap et al.

Summary: This study reveals the relationship between PCSK9 and HDL in humans, showing that HDL acts as a binder of PCSK9 and regulates its function. Using various -omics technologies, the study found that postprandial lipemia drives the release of PCSK9 and apoC3 from HDL.

Remnant cholesterol predicts cardiovascular disease beyond LDL and ApoB: a primary prevention study

Renato Quispe et al.

Summary: High remnant cholesterol (RC) levels are associated with ASCVD in individuals without known ASCVD, independent of traditional risk factors, LDL-C, and apoB levels. The discordant group with high RC/low LDL-C, but not the low RC/high LDL-C group, showed increased ASCVD risk compared to the concordant group.

Lp(a) (Lipoprotein[a]) Concentrations and Incident Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease: New Insights From a Large National Biobank

Aniruddh P. Patel et al.

Summary: This study suggests that there is a linear relationship between Lp(a) concentrations and ASCVD risk, with differences in concentrations across racial subgroups but similar associated risks. High Lp(a) concentrations are also associated with incident ASCVD.

Plasma concentrations of lipoproteins and risk of lower-limb peripheral artery disease in people with type 2 diabetes: the SURDIAGENE study

Capucine Bertrand et al.

Summary: The study found independent associations between high concentrations of HDL cholesterol and ApoA-I and a lower prevalence or incidence of major PAD in people with type 2 diabetes. Conversely, higher levels of total cholesterol/HDL cholesterol ratio and non-HDL cholesterol were associated with an increased incidence of PAD.
