Key progresses of MOE key laboratory of macromolecular synthesis and functionalization in 2020

Jie Ren et al.

Summary: The MOE Key Laboratory of Macromolecular Synthesis and Functionalization at Zhejiang University made significant progress in various areas in 2020. These include the design and synthesis of metal-free organoboron catalysts, the synthesis of chalcogen-rich polymers, the design of microenvironment-sensitive nanoparticles, the mapping of m6A modification on cellular transcriptome-wide messenger RNA, the development of a hydrogel-based robot, the elucidation of the conformation-size scaling law of 2D macromolecules in solution, the development of semitransparent polymer solar cells, and the achievement of long-range ordered bulk-heterojunctions of organic semiconductors. The related work progresses are reviewed in this paper.

TEMPO Radical-Functionalized Supramolecular Coordination Complexes with Controllable Spin-Spin Interactions

Wei-Ling Jiang et al.

Summary: This study systematically investigated the spin-spin interactions of exo- and endo-TEMPO radical-functionalized metallacycles and metallacages constructed via coordination-driven self-assembly. The results revealed distinct spin-spin interactions in solution and solid states, with a large zero-field splitting observed in certain crystalline forms. Moreover, reversible on-off switching of the zero-field splitting was successfully achieved via crystal-to-amorphous transformation induced by mechanical grinding and solvent vapor stimuli.

Radical Cyclic [3]Daisy Chains

Kang Cai et al.

Summary: This study reports the design and synthesis of mechanically interlocked [c3]DCs using radical and anionic templates. Two [c3]DCs with 18 positive charges were obtained with over 90% yields, showcasing good air stability and reversible co-conformational switching under electrochemical control, respectively. These findings not only provide two-dimensional MIMs with attractive electronic and switchable properties, but also lay the groundwork for the design of extended molecular arrays with potential applications in adjustable molecular nets and breathable molecular membranes.

Supramolecular hydrogels of self-assembled zwitterionic-peptides

Yiming Zhang et al.

Summary: Zwitterionic polymer materials have been extensively studied, but zwitterionic peptides supramolecular hydrogel materials are rarely studied. In this study, the preparation of two zwitterionic hydrogels using self-assembled peptides were reported. The differences in structure and function of the zwitterion peptide hydrogels caused by the two preparation methods were compared, with the enzyme induced self-assembly method showing better solubility and lower cytotoxicity.
