Personal PM2.5-bound PAH exposure, oxidative stress and lung function: The associations and mediation effects in healthy young adults

Lei Zhang et al.

Summary: The study revealed that personal exposure to PM2.5 and PAHs was associated with a decline in lung function in healthy young adults, with urinary 8-OHdG mediating the association between personal PM2.5 exposure and lung function.

Longitudinal relationships between polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons exposure and heart rate variability: Exploring the role of transforming growth factor-β in a general Chinese population

Jixuan Ma et al.

Summary: The study aims to investigate the adverse effects of long-term exposure to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) on heart rate variability (HRV) reduction, and to assess the potential role of transforming growth factor-beta 1 (TGF-beta 1) in this relationship. The findings demonstrate that high levels of PAHs exposure can cause HRV reductions, and TGF-beta 1 may play an essential role in this association.

Associations of environmental phthalate exposure with male steroid hormone synthesis and metabolism: An integrated epidemiology and toxicology study

Meiping Tian et al.

Summary: This study examined the association between urinary phthalate metabolites and altered male steroid hormone synthesis and metabolism. The results showed that DEHP metabolites were the main contributor to the decline in hormone synthesis, and environmentally relevant phthalate exposures were associated with both altered steroid synthesis and excretion, providing insights into the endocrine-disrupting potential of phthalates.

Exposure to volatile organic compounds may be associated with oxidative DNA damage-mediated childhood asthma

Hongxuan Kuang et al.

Summary: The study found that asthmatic children had significantly higher levels of DNA damage and VOC metabolites compared to healthy children, and a significant positive correlation with OH-Cot. The importance of respiratory exposure to VOCs for children in Guangzhou was highlighted. There were significant dose-response relationships between most VOC metabolites and 8-OHdG.
