Influence of salinity on the heterogeneous catalytic ozonation process: Implications to treatment of high salinity wastewater

Yuting Yuan et al.

Summary: The presence of salts, particularly chloride ions, significantly influences the performance of both conventional and catalytic ozonation processes by affecting the rate and extent of organic compound degradation. This influence is due to scavenging of O-3, transformation of organics to more hydrophobic forms, and inhibition of hydroxyl radicals. Through appropriate choice of catalyst, this effect can be mitigated to some extent.

Heterogeneous catalytic ozonation of atrazine with Mn-loaded and Fe-loaded biochar

Shi-Qi Tian et al.

Summary: Biochar loaded with manganese and iron showed excellent catalytic ozonation activity, effectively removing atrazine with hydroxyl radicals as the main oxidant. The enhanced adsorption and decomposition of O-3 on the loaded biochar led to improved degradation pathways of atrazine, reducing toxicity of oxidation products significantly. This research indicates the great potential of Mn-loaded and Fe-loaded biochar for heterogeneous catalytic ozonation in water pollution treatment.

Catalytic Effect of Copper on Ozonation in Aqueous Solution

Naoyuki Kishimoto et al.

Summary: This research discussed the catalytic effects of cupric ion (Cu2+) and zero-valent copper (Cu-0) on ozonation in aqueous solution using 1,4-dioxane as a radical probe. While Cu-0 enhanced the removal of 1,4-dioxane, Cu2+ had no catalytic effect. The catalytic effect of Cu-0 was proposed to involve two initiation steps: the corrosion of Cu-0 by oxygen and ozone, and a one-electron redox reaction of Cu-0 with ozone.
