Bisphenol F suppresses insulin-stimulated glucose metabolism in adipocytes by inhibiting IRS-1/PI3K/AKT pathway

Huiling Chen et al.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the effects of BPF on glucose metabolism and insulin sensitivity. The results showed that BPF treatment altered the expression of adipokines, impaired the insulin signaling pathway, and reduced insulin-stimulated glucose metabolism.

The internal exposure of bisphenol analogues in South China adults and the associated health risks

Chun Li et al.

Summary: This study investigated nine bisphenol analogues in urine samples of 1168 South China adults, with Bisphenol A and Bisphenol F showing the highest detection frequencies. Bisphenol A was the most dominant analogue, significantly correlated with age, marital status, drinking status, and history of hyperlipidemia. The estimated daily intake of various bisphenol analogues was much lower than the temporary tolerable reference dose recommended by the European Food Safety Authority, indicating no significant health risks to South China adults.

Toxicity of bisphenol analogues on the reproductive, nervous, and immune systems, and their relationships to gut microbiome and metabolism: insights from a multi-species comparison

Callie M. McDonough et al.

Summary: The review discusses the toxic effects of BPA analogues on various systems in different species, highlighting the mechanisms by which these compounds exert their toxicity. Further research is needed to compare the relative toxicity of lesser-known BPA analogues to BPA and to better understand the underlying mechanisms of action, especially regarding disruptions to microbiome and metabolism.

Long-term exposure to low doses of bisphenol S has hypoglycaemic effect in adult male mice by promoting insulin sensitivity and repressing gluconeogenesis

Yajie Guo et al.

Summary: Exposure to BPS may increase insulin sensitivity in normal diet-fed mice, reduce insulin resistance in high-fat diet-fed mice, and alter hepatic metabolites related to glucose metabolism. Additionally, BPS disrupts thyroid hormone signaling in mice.

Bisphenol A substitutes and sex hormones in children and adolescents

Yuqing Wang et al.

Summary: The study found that BPA has adverse effects on sex hormone levels in female adolescents, while the associations with BPF or BPS were more sporadic. In female adolescents, there were U-shaped relationships between BPA, BPF, and BPS with sex hormones. The associations were virtually nonsignificant among males.

Summary: This study found a lack of recent occupational HBM studies on bisphenols, especially on BPS and BPF. Different methodological designs make comparisons between studies difficult. Few studies have been conducted on the industrial applications of bisphenols outside of Asia.

Seulbi Lee et al.

Summary: The study found an inverse association between urinary paraben concentrations and incident diabetes in mid-life women, while no significant associations were observed for other phenols or parabens. Epidemiological findings for biomarkers with short half-lives and high within-person variability need to be interpreted with caution.
