Hierarchical porous structure formation mechanism in food waste component derived N-doped biochar: Application in VOCs removal

Yuxuan Yang et al.

Summary: Nitrogen-doped hierarchical porous carbon materials were prepared from the pyrolysis process of food waste components. The materials exhibited high specific surface area and total pore volume, and the developed hierarchical porous structure improved the adsorption performance. The presence of nitrogen-containing surface functional groups enhanced the adsorption rate. These findings suggest that the porous biochar can be utilized as an efficient VOCs adsorbent with good reusability.

Adsorption behaviors of VOCs under coal-combustion flue gas environment using activated carbon injection coupled with bag filtering system

Xiuwei Ma et al.

Summary: Adsorbent injection is an efficient technique for flue gas purification, with the removal efficiency of VOCs being related to the pore size and distribution of activated carbon. Waste activated carbon can be reused, with a mixture containing 25% waste carbon showing similar removal efficiency to fresh carbon. In complex coal-combustion environments, the presence of p-xylene can decrease adsorption efficiency by 19.0%.

Process-based VOCs source profiles and contributions to ozone formation and carcinogenic risk in a typical chemical synthesis pharmaceutical industry in China

Nana Cheng et al.

Summary: The study investigated the process-based pollution characteristics of VOCs from the chemical synthesis pharmaceutical industry in the Yangtze River Delta, China. Aromatics, halocarbons, and oxygenated VOCs were found to be dominant in all process units, with toluene, dichloromethane, ethanol, methanol, and acetone being the most abundant species. The source profiles compiled in this study are necessary additions to current profiles and provide a good reference for studying VOCs emission characteristics.

Marcela C. Silva et al.

Summary: This study reports the preparation and characterization of activated carbon fibers (ACF) from banana tree pseudo-stem using two different methodologies. The ACF(II) prepared with hydrothermal carbonization showed higher BET surface area and better adsorption capacity for methylene blue dye. The adsorption process onto ACF(II) was found to be spontaneous and exothermic, with a high monolayer adsorption capacity and effective performance in fixed bed systems.

Ya Peng et al.

Summary: The study comprehensively assessed both direct and indirect VOC emissions from coal-fired power generation processes for the first time through life cycle assessment. It found that indirect emissions, mainly from coal mining and flue treatment systems, accounted for a high proportion of total VOC emissions. Implementing air pollution control devices could significantly reduce VOC emissions.
