Assessment of thermal regeneration of spent commercial activated carbon for methylene blue dye removal

Muhamad Zulhelmie Mohd Nasir et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the adsorptive properties of spent commercial activated carbon and its regenerated derivatives for decolourization of methylene blue dye. The results show that Pyro-RAC with a surface area of 768 m(2)/g exhibited the highest dye removal of 286 mg/g, fitting well with Langmuir and pseudo-first-order kinetics models. The thermal regeneration is feasible, suggesting potential applications for regenerated activated carbon in dye removal from wastewater.
