Activation of peroxydisulfate by magnetically separable rGO/MnFe2O4 toward oxidation of tetracycline: Efficiency, mechanism and degradation pathways

Xiaoyan Meng et al.

Summary: This study investigated the catalytic performance of a novel composite material rGO/MnFe2O4 for the removal of the widely used antibiotic tetracycline (TC). It was found that rGO/MnFe2O4 exhibited higher catalytic activity compared to MnFe2O4 alone. The effects of PDS dose, temperature, initial pH, inorganic anions, and humic acid on TC removal were also studied. The results revealed that both radical and non-radical oxidation processes contributed to the degradation of TC in the rGO/MnFe2O4-PDS system. The decontamination efficacy of natural water samples spiked with TC was also evaluated.

Degradation of Tetracycline Hydrochloride by Cu-Doped MIL-101(Fe) Loaded Diatomite Heterogeneous Fenton Catalyst

Kang-Ping Cui et al.

Summary: In this study, high surface area diatomite was combined with Fe and Cu bimetallic MOF material catalysts to efficiently degrade tetracycline hydrochloride (TC). Fe and Cu played crucial roles in reducing Fe3+ due to their synergistic effect, resulting in increased generation of hydroxyl radicals ( center dot OH) and improved degradation efficiency of TC. The Lewis acid property of Cu expanded the pH range of the reaction system, allowing the material to degrade well under both neutral and acidic conditions. Loading into diatomite reduced agglomeration and metal ion leaching, resulting in low metal ion leaching. The catalyst demonstrated good structural stability and maintained a degradation efficiency of 81.8% even after five reaction cycles.

The synergy of sulfur vacancies and heterostructure on CoS@FeS nanosheets for boosting the peroxymonosulfate activation

Liyuan Wu et al.

Summary: The incorporation of heterostructure and vacancies in the CoS@FeS catalyst synergistically triggers peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation, leading to the efficient degradation of sulfamethoxazole (SMX) through a non-radical/radical oxidized pathway. Sulfur vacancies (SVs) facilitate the adsorption of PMS and dissolved oxygen (DO) on the catalyst surface, while the heterostructure enhances the charge transfer efficiency. The integration of SVs with heterostructure reduces the adsorption energy of PMS on the catalyst interface and improves the charge transfer efficiency for PMS activation.
