Hydrothermal synthesis of CuO/g-C3N4 nanosheets for visible-light driven photodegradation of methylene blue

T. P. Vijayakumar et al.

Summary: In this article, we synthesized pure CuO and a g-C3N4/CuO heterostructure and evaluated their properties using various analytical techniques. The addition of g-C3N4 substantially altered the properties of CuO and resulted in the formation of a heterostructure. Photodegradation experiments showed that the g-C3N4/CuO heterostructure exhibited higher efficiency, which could be attributed to its lower bandgap energy, enhanced charge transport, and reduced charge recombination. Therefore, designing g-C3N4/CuO heterostructure could be a potential approach for wastewater treatment.

An efficient process for recovering copper as CuO nanoparticles from acidic waste etchant via chemical precipitation and thermal decomposition: Turning waste into value-added product

Jianyong Che et al.

Summary: A succinct process for recovering Cu from acidic waste etchant (AWE) was developed, involving recycling Cu via oxalate precipitation, preparing CuO nanoparticles, and recovering NaCl. Na2C2O4 showed higher recovery efficiency (around 99%) compared to H2C2O4 (80.31%). The study proposed a H+-release mechanism to explain the difference in copper precipitation between Na2C2O4 and H2C2O4. By optimizing parameters, 99.8% of Cu was recovered without pH adjustment under optimal conditions. CuO nanoparticles with high purity and small particle size were prepared, and the transformation of Cu was analyzed using various techniques. Additionally, chloride ions were recovered as NaCl at high purity. This study provides a potential approach for dealing with acidic waste etchant and achieving its high-value utilization.
