Data fusion of middle-resolution NMR spectroscopy and low-field relaxometry using the Common Dimensions Analysis (ComDim) to monitor diesel fuel adulteration

Leticia Magalhaes de Aguiar et al.

Summary: The study investigates the enhancement of low-field NMR capability for fuel analysis through data fusion of MR and TD-NMR, using ComDim for exploration, classification, and quantification of common fuel adulterations. Models built using ComDim scores achieved 100% accuracy in classifying fuel sources, sulfur content, vegetable oil, and biodiesel sources, with comparable predictive accuracy to existing literature for diesel, vegetable oil, and biodiesel content determination.

E-sensing and nanoscale-sensing devices associated with data processing algorithms applied to food quality control: a systematic review

Diego Galvan et al.

Summary: The combination of electronic sensing technologies with chemometric methods plays a crucial role in food quality control, enabling the identification of different compounds in food samples. Currently, most studies are still in the exploratory analysis stage, but non-linear methods based on artificial intelligence/machine learning show promising performance.

Low-cost spectroscopic devices with multivariate analysis applied to milk authenticity

Diego Galvan et al.

Summary: This study investigates the potential of low-cost portable spectroscopy techniques for discriminating adulterated milk. The results show that energy-dispersive X-ray fluorescence (EDXRF) combined with chemometric tools and near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy can reliably differentiate authentic cow and goat milk from adulterated ones. Both devices achieved high accuracy rates of 98.4% to 100% when combined with appropriate algorithms.

Data handling in data fusion: Methodologies and applications

Silvana M. Azcarate et al.

Summary: The use of data fusion methodologies has increased as the modern analytical laboratories' capability to measure samples from multiple sources has improved. Understanding the data structure obtained from a particular instrument is essential for the success of data fusion methods, which is sometimes overlooked in the literature. This manuscript focuses on explaining data fusion based on the structure of data obtained from different analytical platforms, with special attention to the nature of the data and the relationships between samples and variables, as well as within variables.
