Near-Infrared Electrochromic Behavior of Dibenzothiepin Derivatives Attached with Two Michler's Hydrol Blue Units

Yusuke Ishigaki et al.

Summary: In this study, stable yellow crystalline compounds were synthesized, and their reversible oxidation led to the formation of near-infrared absorbing dications. X-ray analysis revealed significant geometrical changes between the neutral and dicationic states, resulting in a bistable electrochemical behavior. Additionally, subtle changes in the bridging atom in the central ring were found to modify the redox properties.

A study of the diimmonium dyes employing bis(fluorosulfonyl)imide anions for NIR absorbing film of CMOS image sensor

Hong Mo Kim et al.

Summary: A series of diimmonium dyes have been developed in this study, which show broad and strong absorption in the near-infrared region and exhibit solvatochromism. The absorptivity and maximum absorption wavelength of diimmonium dyes depend on solvent polarity, with thermal stability being influenced by the stability of the counter anion. The modification of counter anions affects the absorptivity and thermal stability of diimmonium dyes, as demonstrated in the study.

Hysteretic Three-State Redox Interconversion among Zigzag Bisquinodimethanes with Non-fused Benzene Rings and Twisted Tetra-/Dications with [5]/[3]Acenes Exhibiting Near-Infrared Absorptions

Yusuke Ishigaki et al.

Summary: Octaaryl-substituted bisquinodimethanes (BQDs) with a zigzag structure were designed as redox-switchable molecules that can undergo four-electron oxidation to produce tetracationic pentacenes with a doubly twisted structure. By stepwise two-electron reduction, the tetracationic pentacenes can be transformed into dicationic anthracenes and then back to the original BQDs. The structures and UV-vis-NIR spectra of these molecules can be controlled by redox stimuli, as they exhibit near-infrared absorptions based on an intramolecular charge-transfer interaction.

Generation of hydroxyl radical-activatable ratiometric near-infrared bimodal probes for early monitoring of tumor response to therapy

Luyan Wu et al.

Summary: The response of tumors to radiotherapy or ferroptosis is closely linked to hydroxyl radical production, and accurate imaging of this reactive oxygen species may allow for monitoring of therapy response. A ratiometric probe has been developed for in vivo imaging of hydroxyl radical generation, providing a reliable method for monitoring treatment response in tumors undergoing erastin-induced ferroptosis or radiotherapy.

UV to NIR multistate electrochromism and electrofluorochromism in dibenzophenazine-arylamine derivatives

Bahadur Sk et al.

Summary: This study elucidated the multistate electrochromism and electrofluorochromism driven by intramolecular and intervalence charge transfer in dibenzophenazin-(phenyl)methanone and arylamine-based molecules. The tunable absorption from UV to NIR and on-off switching of fluorescence were demonstrated in a single-component all-organic molecular material by a subtle variation of electric potentials.

Redox-active tetraaryldibenzoquinodimethanes

Yusuke Ishigaki et al.

Summary: Quinodimethanes (QDs) are non-aromatic pi-conjugated compounds that can interconvert in response systems. Adding four phenyl groups to QDs increases their stability, and further dibenzo-annulation can drastically increase stability. Many derivatives have been developed with these modifications.
