Emission of fused silica and KBr samples in the UV and visible spectral ranges under irradiation with 2.7 MeV electrons

E. Kh. Baksht et al.

Summary: This study irradiated fused silica and KBr samples with a 2.7 MeV electron beam and investigated their emission in the UV and visible regions. Numerical simulation was conducted to simulate the energy spectra and angular distributions of the beam electrons for different target thicknesses. The results demonstrate the impact of beam electron scattering on the angular distribution of Cherenkov radiation in fused silica samples with thicknesses exceeding the electron path length.

A Brewster route to Cherenkov detectors

Xiao Lin et al.

Summary: The study proposes the use of a Brewster-optics-based angular filter to enhance the performance of Cherenkov detectors, increasing sensitivity and particle identification capability. By utilizing a broadband angular filter made from stacks of variable one-dimensional photonic crystals, particle identification is achieved by mapping Cherenkov angles to peak-intensity positions of transmitted photons in the detection plane. This approach offers a feasible solution for implementing compact and highly sensitive Cherenkov detectors, especially in beam lines with small angular divergence, using regular dielectrics.
