Improving Wastewater Treatment by Triboelectric-Photo/Electric Coupling Effect

Summary: This paper provides an overview of the potential energies that can be harvested at various stages of the wastewater treatment process and introduces the application of TENG devices for the collection of these neglected energies. The mechanisms and catalytic performances of TENGs coupled with photo/electric catalysis are discussed, and a thorough investigation of TENG devices and their coupled applications is summarized. The concept of the intimate coupling of self-powered photoelectric catalysis and biodegradation is proposed to further improve removal efficiencies in wastewater treatment.

The fabricated Triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) based on PVDF/MXene composite (PMC) nanofiber demonstrates higher power output and stability compared to pristine PVDF nanofiber, and can be used for energy harvesting and self-powered sensors.
