Optimization and modeling of Uranium recovery from acidic aqueous solutions using liquid membrane with Lix-622 as Phenolic-oxime carrier

M. S. Gasser et al.

Summary: A reliable process for recovering Uranium from acidic solutions was designed using liquid membrane technique. The use of a new stripping phase, Na2SO4 solution, improved the membrane stability compared to conventional phases. The engineered liquid membrane demonstrated effective chelation of Uranium species with Phenolic-oxime, nonyle, and tridecanol groups, allowing for selective Uranium recovery in the presence of high concentrations of Mo and Fe. The optimized membrane showed a fast and regenerable process, and also exhibited promising performance in Thorium recovery.

A redox-active perylene-anthraquinone donor-acceptor conjugated microporous polymer with an unusual electron delocalization channel for photocatalytic reduction of uranium (VI) in strongly acidic solution

Fengtao Yu et al.

Summary: This study reports a novel D-A type conjugated microporous polymer photocatalyst (ECUT-AQ) for photoreduction of uranium in strongly acidic radioactive wastewater. The ECUT-AQ photocatalyst, with its electron-rich perylene unit as donor and electron-deficient anthraquinone (AQ) as acceptor, exhibits excellent electron transport channels and redox activity. The photocatalyst effectively broadens the light absorption range, improves electron-hole pairs separation efficiency, and accelerates electron transfer to UO22+, achieving a high photoreduction rate.

Insights into Photothermally Enhanced Photocatalytic U(VI) Extraction by a Step-Scheme Heterojunction

Yifeng Zhang et al.

Summary: This study synthesized a CdS/BiVO4 step-scheme (S-scheme) heterojunction with self-photothermally enhanced photocatalytic effect for efficient U(VI) photoextraction. Experimental results showed that the S-scheme heterojunction allowed rapid oxidation of U(VI) while avoiding the depletion of electron sacrificial agents. The rapid recombination of electron-hole pairs triggered by the heterojunction released large amounts of heat and accelerated the photocatalysis. This work provides a new enhanced strategy for photocatalytic uranium extraction and presents a direction for the design and development of new photocatalysts.
