Engineering solid-electrolyte interface from aqueous deep-eutectic solvent to enhance the capacity and lifetime of self-assembled heterostructures of 1T-MoS2/graphene

Balaraman Vedhanarayanan et al.

Summary: This study presents a method to electrochemically deposit porous and flexible solid-electrolyte interface (SEI) coatings on active electrode materials using an aqueous deep-eutectic solvent. The uniform SEI film improves the specific capacity and rate capability of the composite electrode, while reducing electrolyte decomposition and charge transfer resistance during cycling. The novel approach is extrapolated as a general protocol to enhance the performance of lithium-ion batteries.

K2CO3-KCl acts as a molten salt flame retardant to prepare N and O doped honeycomb-like carbon in air for supercapacitors

Pengxu Ren et al.

Summary: This paper presents a method to prepare N, O doped honeycomb-like carbon using coal tar pitch as carbon precursors, K2CO3-KCl as activator, and molten salt flame retardant. The as-prepared carbon electrode exhibits high specific capacitance and carbon yield. Additionally, a new type of K2CO3-ethylene glycol deep eutectic solvent (DES) electrolyte is prepared, and the composed symmetrical supercapacitor shows superior energy density in this DES electrolyte.

Deep eutectic solvents as effective electrolyte from potassium iodide and ethylene glycol exhibiting redox behavior for supercapacitor application

Li Hua Xu et al.

Summary: In this study, an efficient deep eutectic solvents (DESs) system based on KI and ethylene glycol (EG) was successfully constructed and used as a electrolyte for supercapacitors. The DESs electrolytes exhibited good electrochemical performance and had the ability to generate pseudocapacitance. The internal composition of the electrolytes significantly influenced their properties, with DESs with a molar ratio of KI to EG of 1:7 delivering the best performance.

Optimization of acetonitrile/water content in hybrid deep eutectic solvent for graphene/MoS2 hydrogel-based supercapacitors

Chia-Wei Lien et al.

Summary: In this study, a co-solvent-in-deep eutectic solvent system was developed by mixing water and acetonitrile with a typical DES electrolyte. The addition of co-solvents improved the conductivity and flame-retardant properties of the DES, leading to a wide electrochemical stability window. Furthermore, a hydrogel consisting of 1T-MoS2 and reduced graphene oxide was used as electrode materials for supercapacitors, demonstrating high energy density and capacitance retention after cycles.

Amino Acid-Induced Interface Charge Engineering Enables Highly Reversible Zn Anode

Haotian Lu et al.

Summary: This research presents a new strategy of zinc-electrolyte interface charge engineering induced by amino acid additives, leading to highly reversible zinc plating/stripping with improved stability and uniformity of the zinc metal anode. Long-term stable cycling at high and ultra-high current densities has been demonstrated, highlighting the reliable self-adaptive feature of the zinc-electrolyte interface.
