Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have been widely used in water treatment due to their unique characteristics. However, their application is limited by their form and particle size. Electrospinning can be used to overcome the disadvantages of MOFs and provide a new method for fabricating MOFs fibers.
Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have attracted an increasing number of application areas especially in water treatment owing to their high specific surface area, adjustable functionalities, plentiful species and many other unique characteristics. However, MOFs may leak out and further be harmful to ecology and even human health because of their nanoscale particle size and the form of fine powder, which also limit MOFs' wide application and processing in practical industry. Recently, electrospinning, a facile shaping approach, has been more and more applied to incorporate functional MOFs with electrospinning fibers. It can help overcome the disadvantages of leaking, difficulty in shaping, and poor compatibility. In this review, fundamental strategies of MOFs immobilization by electrospinning and applications in water treatment are summarized in detail. These systematic introductions offer a particular perspective for preparation of MOFs electrospinning fibers and accelerate further development especially in water treatment.
