Metal-organic frameworks and their composites for the adsorption and sensing of phosphate

Elmehdi Moumen et al.

Summary: This article reviews the utilization of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) in the adsorption and sensing of phosphate. MOFs, with their high surface area and tunability, have shown great potential in addressing environmental issues such as eutrophication. The article highlights the advantages and applications of different MOFs and their composites in phosphate adsorption and sensing, and compares them with existing adsorbents and sensors.

Overlooked Ecological Roles of Influent Wastewater Microflora in Improving Biological Phosphorus Removal in an Anoxic/Aerobic MBR Process

Ronghua Xu et al.

Summary: The study found that the sludge community in MBR-C, with higher diversity and deterministic assembly, had better phosphorus removal compared to MBR-T. Additionally, MBR-C had higher abundance of polyphosphate accumulating organisms and hydrolytic/fermentative bacteria but lower abundance of glycogen-accumulating organisms.

Facile Cr3+-Doping Strategy Dramatically Promoting Ru/CeO2 for Low-Temperature CO2 Methanation: Unraveling the Roles of Surface Oxygen Vacancies and Hydroxyl Groups

Xianglan Xu et al.

Summary: The introduction of Cr element in the support of Ru/CeO2 catalyst significantly enhanced CO2 methanation activity, primarily by promoting the formate pathway. Cr3+ doping increased the number of surface oxygen vacancies and hydroxyl groups, thereby increasing the production of bicarbonates and formates, leading to improved methane production rates at low temperatures for the Ru/Ce(0.9)Cr(0.1)O(x) catalyst.

Grey Fe-CeO2-σ for boosting photocatalytic ozonation of refractory pollutants: Roles of surface and bulk oxygen vacancies

Xixi Chen et al.

Summary: The surface and bulk oxygen vacancies in grey Fe doped CeO2-sigma can be tuned to affect light absorption, charge transfer, and catalytic activity, ultimately enhancing catalytic activity by producing more reactive oxygen species and accelerating electron transfer. Surface oxygen vacancies facilitate ozone adsorption, while bulk oxygen vacancies promote ozone dissociation into reactive surface oxygen.

Mixed-valent manganese oxide for catalytic oxidation of Orange II by activation of persulfate: heterojunction dependence and mechanism

Daoqing Liu et al.

Summary: The coexistence of aliovalent cations can affect the catalytic properties of manganese oxide. Mixed-valent manganese oxides were prepared by a hydrothermal route and tested for degradation of Orange II dye. MnOx with a mole ratio of Mn4+/ Mn2+ close to 1.0 exhibited the best catalytic performance. This catalyst preparation strategy provides a new idea for high-efficiency environmental catalysts.
