A novel NH2-MIL-88B(Fe)-modified ceramic membrane for the integration of electro-Fenton and filtration processes: A case study on naproxen degradation

Zhihong Ye et al.

Summary: Process intensification based on membrane microfiltration and catalytic oxidation technologies is a promising strategy for water treatment. In this study, a metal-organic framework (MOF) was grown in situ on a catalytic ceramic membrane (CM) to remove naproxen from water matrices. The NH2-MIL-88B(Fe) layer on the CM provided a large amount of active sites for generating hydroxyl radicals. Membrane fouling was effectively mitigated by combining hot water backwash with self-cleaning. The degradation routes of naproxen were proposed, and the fabricated CM showed potential for continuous wastewater treatment.

Progress of homogeneous and heterogeneous electro-Fenton treatments of antibiotics in synthetic and real wastewaters. A critical review on the period 2017-2021

Enric Brillas

Summary: Antibiotics are widely used to fight and heal bacterial diseases in animals and humans worldwide. However, they have been detected at low concentrations in natural waters, posing potential health risks and causing alterations in food chains and increased resistance to bacterial infection. Conventional wastewater treatment plants struggle to effectively remove antibiotics due to their high stability. The electro-Fenton (EF) process, as an advanced oxidation process, shows promise for the destruction of antibiotics. This review provides a comprehensive analysis of the application of EF in treating synthetic and real wastewaters contaminated with common antibiotics from 2017 to 2021.
