Ni-based MOFs catalytic oxidative cleavage of lignin models and lignosulfonate under oxygen atmosphere

Minghao Zhou et al.

Summary: A strategy has been developed to immobilize non-noble metal particles on supports using metal-organic frameworks as precursors. The addition of Ni enhanced the acid sites of the MOF catalyst, resulting in improved catalytic activity and the ability to break down lignin into high value-added products. The Ni/C-10 catalyst also exhibited excellent desulfurization ability.

High-efficiency catalytic hydrodeoxygenation of lignin-derived vanillin with nickel-supported metal phosphate catalysts

Jie Gao et al.

Summary: In this study, a series of Ni loaded metal phosphates catalysts were prepared for the hydrodeoxygenation of lignin-derived vanillin. It was found that Ni/ZrP catalyst showed the highest activity due to its small Ni particle size, large specific surface area, strong metal-support interaction, and optimal acidity. The synergistic effect of Ni, Lewis acid sites (LAS), and Bronsted acid sites (BAS) was proven to be important for the conversion of vanillin. Hydrogen from both H2 and isopropanol contributed to the reaction, reducing the need for external H2 supply.

Phase tuning of ZrO2 supported cobalt catalysts for hydrodeoxygenation of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural to 2,5-dimethylfuran under mild conditions

Tianci Xiao et al.

Summary: The crystal structure of catalyst support plays a significant role in influencing its surface and electronic properties, thereby affecting catalytic activity. By preparing monoclinic, tetragonal, and mixed phase Co/ZrO2 catalysts, different hydrogenation and hydrogenolysis activities were observed in the conversion of HMF to DMF. The interaction between cobalt and t-ZrO2 resulted in higher hydrogenation activity, while the presence of acid concentration on the surface of Co/m-ZrO2 led to higher efficiency in hydrogenolysis reactions. The combination of high hydrogenation and hydrogenolysis activities in Co/Mix-ZrO2 achieved the highest yield of DMF under mild conditions.

Post-Synthesis modification of metal-organic frameworks using Schiff base complexes for various catalytic applications

Manpreet Kaur et al.

Summary: Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are porous crystalline materials built through the interconnection between metal clusters and organic linkers, with controllable structures and distribution of catalytically active sites via post-synthesis modification (PSM) using Schiff base. Schiff base complex-anchored MOFs play a significant role in various catalytic reactions, offering a promising strategy to develop highly effective and stable catalysts. These catalysts help overcome the limitations of homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysis, making them valuable for diverse catalytic applications.

Catalytic Conversion of Lignin to Liquid Fuels with an Improved H/Ceff Value over Bimetallic NiMo-MOF-Derived Catalysts

Changzhou Chen et al.

Summary: In this study, the catalytic conversion of lignin using spherical MOF-derived NiMo@C catalysts led to the production of liquid fuels with improved H/Ceff values. The addition of Mo to the catalyst enhanced the hydrodeoxygenation activity and stability, resulting in higher yields of ethylcyclohexane and cyclohexanol. Physicochemical characterizations confirmed the synergistic effect between metals Mo and Ni, facilitating the hydrotreatment process. The optimal reaction conditions allowed for effective hydrotreatment of lignin and its monomers/dimers/trimers, producing liquid products with enhanced H/Ceff values.
