N-doped activated carbon derived from furfuryl alcohol - development of porosity, properties, and adsorption of carbon dioxide and ethene

Michal Zgrzebnicki et al.

Summary: In this study, N-doped activated carbon was prepared through physical activation, and the influence of porous structure on CO2 and C2H4 adsorption was investigated. The results showed that samples with higher specific surface areas exhibited higher adsorption capacities for C2H4, while samples with lower specific surface areas had higher uptake of CO2. This suggests that pore size plays a crucial role in determining efficient CO2 and C2H4 uptakes by the carbons.

Nitrogen-doped activated carbons derived from microalgae pyrolysis by-products by microwave/KOH activation for CO2 adsorption

Shuo Shi et al.

Summary: Nitrogen-doped activated carbons synthesized by microwave/KOH activation from microalgae pyrolysis by-products exhibit developed pore structure and abundant active functional groups, resulting in high CO2 adsorption capacities. The CO2 adsorption processes are mainly controlled by external mass transfer and are primarily physisorption. Additionally, the CO2 adsorption capacities of nitrogen-doped activated carbons by microwave/KOH activation are significantly better than those by thermal/KOH activation.
