Interfacial Charge Transfer between Silver Phosphate and W2N3 Induced by Nitrogen Vacancies Enhances Removal of β-Lactam Antibiotics

Yan Lin et al.

Summary: A novel composite photocatalyst, Ag3PO4@W2N3-NV, was successfully synthesized and applied for efficient removal of beta-lactam antibiotics, showing superior photocatalytic degradation performance. Experimental results confirmed that the presence of nitrogen vacancies on the W2N3-NV surface facilitated the formation of defects and dangling bonds, promoting the combination with Ag3PO4 and formation of new chemical bonds at the interface. The W-O chemical bonds formed at the interface facilitated fast transfer of photogenerated charge carriers, enhancing the carriers transfer and separation ability of the composite photocatalyst.

In-depth insight into the mechanism on photocatalytic synergistic removal of antibiotics and Cr (VI): The decisive effect of antibiotic molecular structure

Qiang Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, a synergistic effect on the photocatalytic removal of antibiotics and hexavalent chromium (Cr (VI)) is achieved using ultra-thin g-C3N4. The mechanism of this synergistic effect is deeply studied at the molecular level through experiments and theoretical calculations. Antibiotics molecules are found to act as electron donors, accelerating the separation of photo-generated electron-hole pairs and increasing the participation of electrons/holes in the redox reaction. Another important finding is the linear relationship between the electron-donating capacity and the synergistic efficiency.
