Catalytic oxidation of Hg0 over Mn-doped CeO2-ZrO2 solid solution and MnOx/CeO2-ZrO2 supported catalysts: Characterization, catalytic activity and SO2 resistance

Zijian Zhou et al.

Summary: MnOx-based oxides are efficient catalysts for elemental mercury oxidation in flue gas, and combining with CeO2 or CeO2-ZrO2 enhances their catalytic activity. The new MnOx-CeO2-ZrO2 solid solution catalyst showed better Hg-0 oxidation performance compared to the MnOx/CeO2-ZrO2 supported catalyst. Mn4+ and surface active oxygen were identified as the active species in Hg-0 oxidation reactions, and SO2 significantly inhibited the activity of MnOx/CeO2-ZrO2 but had less impact on MnOx-CeO2-ZrO2 solid solution.

A theoretical study on structures of neutral (CuS)n (n=1-10) clusters and their interaction with Hg0

Yahui Wang et al.

Summary: This study theoretically investigates the mercury removal mechanism of CuS nanomaterials and finds that their excellent removal performance is related to strong adsorption of Hg-0 on the clusters. The introduction of graphene does not destroy the removal ability of CuS nanomaterials, consistent with experimental studies. The study reveals that Hg chemically adsorbs on (CuS)(n) clusters, expanding the Cu-core and further stabilized by bridging S atoms.

In situ construction of MnO2 @CeO2 catalyst with a cake-like hierarchical nanosheets structure for efficient toluene oxidation

Pijun Gong et al.

Summary: Cake-like MnO2@CeO2 catalyst with hierarchical nanosheets structure was successfully constructed. The relationship between structure and activity of the catalyst was characterized. It was found that the strong synergistic effect between MnO2 and CeO2 generated rich surface oxygen species and better reducibility, resulting in high toluene conversion at lower temperatures. Furthermore, loading MnO2 on the CeO2 support significantly increased the oxygen vacancies, Ce3+/Ce4+ and BET surface area of the catalyst.

Lu Dong et al.

Summary: A magnetically recoverable sorbent incorporating γ-Fe2O3 into attapulgite and loaded with CuCl2 was developed for efficient removal of Hg-0 from coal combustion flue gas. The sorbent showed promising results in Hg-0 removal at high temperature, with the mechanism involving O-2 regeneration and Cu/Fe re-oxidation. The sorbent was less affected by NO and SO2, and the presence of HCl and O-2 aided in regeneration for multiple cycles.

Elemental Mercury Removal from Flue Gas over Silver-Loaded CuS-Wrapped Fe3O4 Sorbent

Jie Xu et al.

Summary: In this study, a recyclable magnetic Ag-based sorbent for zero-valent mercury (Hg-0) removal was successfully prepared using CuS-wrapped Fe3O4 as the support and Ag as the loading material. The synthesized Ag/CuS@Fe3O4 sorbent exhibited excellent Hg-0 removal activity and resistance to SO2 at 50 degrees C. Adsorption of Gaseous Mercury for Engineering Optimization: From Macrodynamics to Adsorption Kinetics and Thermodynamics

Qinyuan Hong et al.

Summary: This study designed a scale-up fixed-bed reaction unit with CuS-coated Al2O3 sorbent to investigate the influence of gaseous diffusion, particle size, and wall effect on Hg-0 removal. Lower gas flow rate enhanced mercury removal efficiency, and the combination of CuS/Al2O3 with a certain particle size and reaction tube maintained nearly complete mercury removal. The Hg-0 adsorption process was found to be controlled by external diffusion processes, with the parameters suggesting a spontaneous, irreversible, and endothermic progress.
